Clare is an experienced pharmacologist having worked for over 30 years in drug discovery following a PhD in Neuropharmacology in the laboratory of Prof Philip Strange at the University of Kent. She is currently Senior VP Drug Discovery at C4X Discovery, an innovative biotech company developing small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of immuno-inflammatory disorders. At C4XD, Clare has been a key member of the teams responsible for out-licensing of 3 drug discovery programmes, including a selective Orexin-1 receptor antagonist for treatment of substance use disorders which has progressed into clinical trials. Prior to joining C4XD, Clare worked for AstraZeneca for over 20 years mainly in the field of respiratory and inflammation. Her research at AstraZeneca included investigation of the role of the Monocarboxylate Transporter MCT1 as a target for immunosuppression and agonists of the Toll-like receptor TLR7 for treatment of respiratory disorders.
